Shenandoah Watershed Hero Schools

More than 5,500 students go to school at one of the 17 schools in the watershed in Shenandoah County. Individually our impact may not seem like much, but collectively we can all work together to ensure we enjoy our watershed now and in the future.

Be a Shenandoah Watershed Hero!

Across Shenandoah County, our Watershed Hero Schools are committed to environmental education and protection. K-12, kids and teenagers are learning to be lifelong stewards to local waterways, like the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. Some schools are furthering their commitment by taking on projects designed to keep pollutants and nutrients out of our rivers and streams, by hosting volunteer trash and river cleanups, tackling projects like building a rain barrel or installing native plant gardens that can serve as outdoor classrooms, or working to do classroom projects aimed at addressing more complex issues like degrading water quality or biodiversity loss.
