Vehicle Personal Property Tax

In Virginia, vehicle owners — including those with leased vehicles — must pay an annual personal property tax based on the value of the vehicle as of January 1 each year.

In Shenandoah County, this tax applies to:

  • Motor Homes
  • Trailers
  • Campers
  • Mobile Homes 
  • Boats
  • Airplanes

A vehicle is considered taxable in Shenandoah County if it has situs in the county. A vehicle has situs in Shenandoah County if it meets any of the following conditions:

  • It is garaged, parked, or stored in the County
  • It is registered to a Shenandoah County address with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
