VRS (Life Insurance)
VRS provides group life insurance to eligible employees. Optional life insurance is also available to be purchased.
Anthem Insurance
The County offers Anthem Health, Dental, Vision, and EAP. Employee coverage is paid 100% by the County for the basic plan; family members may be enrolled at an additional cost.
457 Deferred Compensation
Members build additional retirement funds from their pre-taxed income by selecting saving plans to suit their needs.
Annual Leave
An employee begins to earn annual leave upon employment. The rate at which it is accrued over time depends on the employee's total length of service with Shenandoah County. Accrued annual leave is limited to a maximum amount that may be carried over from one year to the next. This carry-over amount is calculated at the end of each calendar year (December 31).
Sick Leave
An employee begins to earn sick leave upon employment. Sick leave may be carried over from one year to the next. The maximum number of hours of sick leave an employee may accumulate is 90 days (or 720 hours).
