Planning

ATTENTION! Learn more about the the Shenandoah 2045: A Future Together Comprehensive Planning Process Here! Help shape a better tomorrow together!

Every community has a plan for the future, a dream of what it can one day become. Your community has a plan too, and we are here to make sure your voice is heard in that plan. Long-range planning for the County is guided by the County Planner and conducted in a collaborative process with many committees, other partners, and hopefully yourself! The County’s roadmap to the future is the County’s Comprehensive Plan, which sets out the vision and direction for the County until 2025. The Plan is continually reviewed and updated with the assistance of the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC).

The Comprehensive Plan discusses such topics as:

  • Historic and scenic resources
  • Natural resources
  • Land use
  • Economic Development
  • Population
  • Housing
  • Public services and facilities
  • Transportation
  • Hazard Mitigation

County Planning also involves more fine-tuned planning such as small area plans, reports and studies of the current and projected futures of the County, as well as larger County-wide or Region-wide plans such as the Master Plan For The North Fork Of The Shenandoah River.

Shenandoah County is also home to six different Towns, the pearls of Shenandoah County, which have their own respective comprehensive plans. Links to their websites and comprehensive plans can be found below:
