This course provides a foundation to prepare emergency responders for a wide variety of possible rescue operations which includes basic rescue skills in low and high angle environments, site operations, victim management, and ropes, knots, and anchoring systems. Completion of this gateway course is a mandatory prerequisite for all Virginia Department of Fire Programs Heavy and Technical Rescue Courses, regardless if the student is seeking Pro-Board certification or not.

Prerequisites: 18 years of age, HazMat Operations, ITR Mod 1- If you took ITR Mod I online, you MUST email a copy of your certificate to SCFR at firstname.lastname@example.org
Equipment needs: NFPA rated fire helmet or technical rescue helmet, Steel toe boots, gloves that provide dexterity(non structural), eye protection, long pants, long sleeve shirt.
Registration: Interested applicants need to submit a completed training registration form and Registration fee of $50.00 (non refundable) (make checks payable to Mt Jackson Rescue and Fire) Send all paperwork to Shannon at Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue.
