Commonwealth Adopts New Building Code
The Commonwealth of Virginia has adopted a new building code which became effective on September 4, 2018. Approximately every three years this process occurs through the legislative process. The 2015 Uniform Statewide Building Code is the prevailing building code for the Commonwealth, references, adopts and amends the 2015 International Codes. The uniform statewide building code is the building code used throughout Virginia and supersedes all local building codes. The 2015 USBC can be found at the following link:
As of September 4, 2018, Shenandoah County is enforcing the 2015 edition of the International Codes with the 2015 Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code amendments. If you wish to continue to use the 2012 codes, please communicate this to our Permit Technicians at time of permit application. You will be able to use the 2012 code until September 4, 2019.
