NOTICE is hereby given that the Shenandoah County Board of
Supervisors (the “Board”) intends to consider whether to adopt
amendments to Article V of Chapter 146 of the Shenandoah
County Code, entitled Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Tax
Exemption (the “Amendments”). The Amendments would
provide additional tax relief to disabled taxpayers and to
taxpayers who are over the age of 65 by increasing the amount
that a taxpayer can earn to be eligible for tax relief from $33,000
to $40,000 and by increasing the maximum amount of tax
exempted from $1000 to $1500. The Amendments would also
amend the phase out schedule to both reflect the higher amount
of income that may be earned, and to reduce the number of
phase out categories. There are other eligibility requirements
described in the Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Tax
Exemption Ordinance.
The Board will hold a public hearing on December 13, 2022 at
7:00 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room of the County
Government Center, 600 North Main Street, Woodstock,
Virginia, during which the Board will receive comments
regarding the proposed Amendments.
Copies of the Amendments are available for review in the
County Administrator’s Office, located at 600 North Main Street,
Suite 102, Woodstock, Virginia, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m.
All public hearings are accessible to persons with disabilities.
Any person requiring auxiliary aids, including signers, in
connection with the public hearing shall notify Mr. Evan Vass,
County Administrator (540-459-6165) at least five days prior to
the time of the meeting.
