Full-Time Administrative Assistant – Departments of Parks & Recreation and General Properties

Shenandoah County is inviting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant to support the Departments of Parks & Recreation and General Properties.

Shenandoah County is seeking an experienced, motivated individual to join the County as an Administrative Assistant for Parks & Recreation and General Properties. The Administrative Assistant performs difficult skilled clerical work performing a variety of complex office assistance and administrative tasks for the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Department of General Properties; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Department’s Director or designee.

Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and techniques; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; thorough knowledge of the organization and functions of the department and of general administrative policies and practices; thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs for the purposes of creating and formatting documents, graphs, databases and spreadsheets;  ability to operate standard office and related equipment; ability to keep office records and to prepare accurate reports from file sources; ability to perform and organize work independently; ability to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters and to perform routine office management details without referral to supervisor; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in a highly interactive team oriented work environment.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school including, or supplemented by, course work in secretarial science and considerable clerical, secretarial, or administrative support experience.

The annual pay range for this full-time FLSA non-exempt position is $32,083 – $47,627. The County offers an excellent benefits package, including participation in the Virginia Retirement System, health, dental, and vision insurance, vacation and sick leave, and holidays. The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screening and background check.
