Shenandoah County is inviting applications for the position of Plans Examiner within the County’s Department of Community Development.
Shenandoah County is seeking an experienced, hard-working individual to join the County’s Department of Community Development as a Plans Examiner. The Plans Examiner performs intermediate technical and administrative work involving the review of building plans for compliance with legal standards. The position reviews residential, commercial, and industrial construction plans for compliance with applicable codes, advises homeowners, builders, developers, architects, and engineers of required compliance, performs field inspections, and maintains appropriate records and files. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Building Official.
Considerable knowledge of the technical aspects of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical code enforcement; considerable knowledge of sound engineering and construction techniques and practices; ability to interpret code in relation to the construction and building industry; and the ability to read and interpret plans and blueprints in order to ensure code compliance.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by experience as a building plans examiner, building inspector, construction superintendent, estimator, construction tradesman, or similar field. Possession of a residential building plans examiner certification issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia required within 18 months of hire and possession of a commercial building plans examiner certification issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia required within 36 months of hire.
The annual pay range for this FLSA non-exempt position is $40,970 – $60,785. The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screening and background check.
