PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING – VA Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) will be holding a public information meeting regarding a proposed public river access site at Rt. 600 (Headley Road) on the North Fork Shenandoah River. The meeting will be held at the Shenandoah County Government Complex in the Board Room on Thursday, September 26th at 7:00 PM.
The North Fork Shenandoah River is an exceptional recreational resource in western Virginia. The river is ideal for a canoe or kayak float and offers great fishing and wildlife watching opportunities. The North Fork Shenandoah River is navigable from Timberville to the confluence with the South Fork Shenandoah River near Front Royal (98 miles). However, public access to the river is limited. Currently DGIF maintains or assist with maintenance at six public river access sites on the North Fork Shenandoah River (Meem’s Bottom, Chapman’s, Deer Rapids, Strasburg Town Park, Catlett’s, and Riverton). These sites are routinely visited by a DGIF Boating Access Maintenance Technician and patrolled by DGIF Conservation Police Officers. DGIF strives to provide access to wildlife resources and wildlife associated recreation.
