The County of Shenandoah is accepting applications for the position of a Full-Time Landfill Equipment Operator. This position performs skilled work involving the operation of equipment for refuse collection, transport, and landfilling for the Solid Waste Management Department.
Successful candidates must possess a commercial driver’s license, have considerable experience operating medium and heavy motorized equipment, and be able to service and maintain equipment. Successful candidates will also have a thorough knowledge of safe driving practices, and occupational hazard and safety precautions necessary for the operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment. Minimum education level is any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Ideal candidates should have landfill equipment experience, a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of operating construction and solid waste equipment, be able to change containers and transport refuse to disposal sites, and the ability to determine slope or grade and ensure that it meets the plan requirements. Ideal candidates would also have the ability to obtain a State Landfill Operator Certification.
This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with a competitive benefits package, including Virginia Retirement System, health and dental insurance, vacation, sick, and holiday leave. Compensation will depend on the successful candidate’s experience and education. The position is grade 13 of the County’s pay scale with a starting salary of $31,148 and a 2.5% increase after 6-months of satisfactory employment.
