The Finance Department administers financial management and operations for the government of Shenandoah County. The Finance Team takes great pride in the management of the County's finances in an ethical, efficient, and transparent manner.

Specialized training:

The Virginia Government Finance Officers' Association (VGFOA), in conjunction with Radford University's Government and Nonprofit Assistance Center (GNAC), offers a Certificate Program to provide training in the areas of accounting, budgeting, cash management, debt, administration, internal controls, Virginia law and other topics pertinent to the state and local governments. Upon successful completion of the ten-course program, a Virginia Government Finance Officers' Certificate is awarded. The following positions require this designation within three years of hire (those indicated with an * currently hold this certificate, and those currently pursuing this certificate are indicated with an **). 

    • Director of Finance*
    • Finance Manager**
    • Finance Specialist-General Ledger**
    • Finance Specialist-Payroll**

The Institute of Finance and Management (IOFM) offers an Accounts Payable Certification Program to provide training on the fundamentals of accounts payable, associated best practices, and accuracy and compliance in regulatory practices (i.e., tax reporting).  Upon successful completion of this approximate 3 month training program an Accounts Payable Specialist Certification is awarded.
